Artist Statement
I enjoy exploring the importance of play. I believe most toys are kinetic sculptures. Using the form of toys to make my art has helped me bridge the gap of fear that comes with interactive art. It has been ingrained in people’s minds since childhood to not touch art. There is a reason for this, but it has been pushed to the extreme. Where people now have lost respect for the art they consume every day but fear touching art in museums. I have always struggled with finding a way to call audiences to interact with my art. I want to see how people will interact, people are fascinating. Even in their fear of touching art. I have found with the form of toys I don’t need a call to action as audiences will instinctively go to play. I hope to continue to try to bridge the gap between art and play. There cannot be joy without play.
